The city of San Antonio, Texas, found itself on the wrong end of a lawsuit after removing a Confederate statue, according to a Wednesday report.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy, a group that has erected Confederate monuments across the country, sued the city Monday for removing a memorial honoring Confederate soldiers in September, reported News 4 San Antonio.

The now-disbanded local Barnard E. Bee chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy alleged ownership of the memorial and argued they did not get a chance to challenge its removal. The group claimed that it does not know where the monument is currently housed and alleged that San Antonio did not reply to requests to discuss the statue.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy also does not know where a time capsule buried under the monument is, according to the local news outlet.

The group believes the monument would be worth $81,098 and said they raised money for its installation with bake sales, quilting bees, entertainment, and tea sales. San Antonio and Texas violated the group’s First, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights and seek unspecified payments for damage, injunctive relief, and attorney fees, the United Daughters of the Confederacy allege.

“Mayor Nirenberg has not seen the lawsuit and will not be commenting at this time,” Bruce Davidson, communications director for San Antonio mayor Ron Nirenberg, said to The Daily Caller News Foundation. Davidson directed TheDCNF to the city attorney, who directed TheDCNF to the government and public affairs department.

“The City has not officially been served with the suit and the City Attorney’s office cannot comment on pending litigation,” said Thea Setterbo, a public affairs manager for the city, when reached for comment.
