MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle wondered Friday if President Trump withheld some of the JFK files because of his previous feud with Sen. Ted Cruz.

Ruhle recalled that during the Republican primary campaign, Trump alleged that Cruz’s father may have been involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

According to Ruhle, it is entirely possible that Trump got involved in the release of the FBI files about the assassination because he doesn’t want to be called a “liar” if it turns out Cruz’s father wasn’t a part of the assassination.

“Do you think, Senator, the president’s calculus in any way had anything to do with these claims he made about Ted Cruz’s dad, why he would now want to get involved in releasing these documents?” Ruhle asked her guest, former Sen. Robert Torricelli. “Trump hates being called a liar.

“Only Donald Trump could take the release of 54 year old documents and make it some kind of a national sensation,” Torricelli responded.
