Alabama football coach Nick Saban must have been the happiest man on the planet when Georgia was ranked first in the initial college football playoff rankings.

Saban loves playing the role of the underdog, even when he rarely ever is. It’s his mantra, he’s done it for years and one look at Alabama’s trophy case tells you it’s worked out pretty well for the Crimson Tide.

The five-time national championship winning coach is incredibly talented at what he does. You’re an idiot if you don’t admit this simple fact, regardless of your overall thoughts on him. He also realizes the dangers of the media constantly pumping up his team, and pretty much crowning them national champions before the season started. Saban had the great “rat poison” rant earlier in October about this very subject.

So, you can bet everything you have that he was incredibly happy when Georgia was ranked ahead of him. He doesn’t have to humble his team anymore. The media just did it for him. Alabama has obviously been the most impressive team in America when it comes to the “eye test,” and now Saban has the ammunition he’s been waiting for all year.

Now he gets to yell at his team how they’re not the best, and he has something to point to as proof. I’d be very nervous if I was on a team that had to play Alabama at some point down the stretch. It’s going to get ugly.

Everything is going exactly as planned for Saban down in Tuscaloosa.
