The popular Netflix show “House of Cards” has completely separated itself from lead actor Kevin Spacey after he was accused of sexual harassment.

Netflix released the following statement on Friday:

Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.

Media Rights Capital, which serves on production of the show, also released the following statement:

While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey’s behavior on the set of HOUSE OF CARDS, he has been suspended, effective immediately. MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.

The question now is whether or not the show continues at all. It’s hard to imagine the show continuing without Spacey, especially given how the fifth season ended. There’s no smooth transition for him to get out of the show and have it be believable for the viewer. It suggests to me that the show is likely over.

Spacey has been accused by multiple people of sexual harassment, including by an actor who was 14 years old at the time of their encounter. The claims have also resulted in Spacey’s representation bailing out on him.

Stay tuned to find out whether or not the loyal viewers will get the final season of “House of Cards” they’ve all been expecting.
