WATCH:

Sen. Menendez was accused of taking political bribes from Dr. Salomon Melgen in exchange for lobbying for Melgen’s political interests. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict after the two month long trial and the judge declared a mistrial on Thursday. Prosecutors may choose to refile the charges in the future.

“I want to thank my children, Alicia, who is here every day with me in court and brought my lovely granddaughter to New Jersey…and my son, Rob who testified on my behalf and then joined his sister in court, who kept me company and even let me beat him in a round of golf. I am so blessed to have two great children and I love you so much I can’t,” he said before he paused, then began to cry. “I can’t truly thank you.”

Menendez was able to hold himself together and continue his speech, wherein he thanked his lawyers, Dr. Melgen, and Melgen’s lawyers.
