Cleveland Cavaliers guard Derrick Rose’s days of playing in the NBA could be nearing a rapid close.

ESPN reported the following Friday afternoon:

Cavaliers guard Derrick Rose has become increasingly frustrated by the injury process and is taking personal time to evaluate his future in the NBA, league sources told ESPN.

Rose has not been with the team for the better part of a week, sources told ESPN, and it is unclear when the 2011 league MVP will return. Rose has missed 11 of the Cavs’ 18 games this season, including the last seven because of a sprained left ankle.

One team source told ESPN of Rose: “He’s tired of being hurt and it’s taking a toll on him mentally.”

Rose’s career is so depressing. He was at one point in time the league’s MVP, absolutely unstoppable and looked like he was on his way to possibly becoming the best player in the NBA while he played with the Chicago Bulls.

However, all that came crashing down when injuries started to hamper his career. It’s really unfortunate because we’ll never know how great he could have been. His early years were electric.

We’ll have to wait and see how it all shakes out, but I don’t have an overly optimistic sense he’ll be sticking around for much longer. It’s really a shame we’ll never know what could have been.
