An American diplomat was shot during an armed robbery near Rio de Janeiro Friday, the Associated Press reports.

Vice consul Stephanie Bohlen was shot in the foot on a road approximately 90 miles from Rio de Janerio, according to federal highway police. She was first brought to a local hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Rio for surgery.

Bohlen was traveling with a male partner, who was reportedly uninjured in the attack.

Angra dos Reis, the site of the attack, is a popular vacation destination and was the site of an additional shooting earlier this year, according to The Hill.

Eloise Dixon, a British tourist, was shot twice by drug gang members while she was wandering through the “rough neighborhood” of Angra dos Reis.

The U.S. Consulate in Rio did not reply to a request for details, according to the Associated Press report. Bolden’s current condition is therefore not immediately clear.
