The University of Tennessee has reportedly started discussions with Jon Gruden about becoming the next head football coach.

CBS Sports reported the following Sunday morning:

Sources said school officials have discussed the matter with him, with Gruden a top target for the Volunteers.

Part of securing Gruden for the position would include luring former Volunteers quarterback Tee Martin back to Tennessee to serve as a chief recruiter for Gruden, according to sources, and the deal, if reached, would be worth upwards of $10M per season for Gruden, with another $8M per season reserved for the salaries of his staff.

The “Grumors” just continue to get more and more interesting with every single week that goes by. I, just like everybody else, put next to zero stock in this when these rumors began a couple months ago. There was no way I could envision Gruden leaving ESPN for a college job.

Now I’m not so sure. It looks like it’s Gruden’s job if he wants it, which is a major question mark. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out, but right now we should all be on Gruden watch. It’d be the biggest news of the college football year by far if he agrees to coach the Volunteers.
