The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) employees have given an inordinate amount of money to Democrats compared to Republicans, records show.
CFPB employees have donated nearly $115,000 to various Democrats and Democratic committees between since the bureau opened in 2011, The Washington Examiner reported Monday.
Hillary Clinton received $46,611, while $19,988 went to Barack Obama and $13,190 fell in Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s lap, according to the Examiner. CFBP workers and executives also donated $1,129 to Sen. Bernie Sanders and $10,075 to Democratic campaign committees, sums calculated with records from Open Secrets show.
Mitt Romney received a $1,000 donation out of the 594 donor entries who listed the CFPB as their employer, according to the data.
“While a partisan tilt towards Democrats within a federal agency is not remarkable, the overwhelming tilt within the CFPB shows the extreme partisan and ideological tilt of the agency,” said an agency watcher, according to the Examiner.
Created under former President Obama’s administration after the 2008 financial crisis, the Bureau seeks to “make consumer financial markets work for consumers, responsible providers, and the economy as a whole,” according to its website. “We protect consumers from unfair, deceptive, or abusive practices and take action against companies that break the law.”
Open Secrets’ data comes from the Oct. 2017 Federal Election Commission data.
