Democratic Rep. John Conyers has reportedly been hospitalized for a stress-related illness amid a growing sexual harassment scandal.
Family spokesperson Sam Riddle said Thursday that the 88-year-old Conyers is seeking treatment at a local hospital, reports CBS Detroit.
Several former staffers have spoken out against Conyers in the past week, accusing him of parading around his office in his underwear and inappropriately touching or propositioning them. It was also reported that Conyers had settled a wrongful dismissal case for more than $27,000 after a former employee accused him of firing her for resisting his sexual advances.
Conyers stepped down from his role as the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, but at least three Democrats want him to resign entirely. Other colleagues say the matter should be handled through a congressional ethics committee.
The Congressional Black Caucus met Wednesday to discuss Conyers’ next move, but they have not pressed him to resign.
