Fox Sports pundit Joel Klatt leveled accusations Wednesday at the college football playoff committee of rigging the system to help Alabama get into the playoff.

“They cook the books. Look at the backend of the rankings. All of a sudden Fresno State shows up. Mississippi State stays in there. Guess who that helps out? Alabama. It’s so obvious, it’s not even funny,” Klatt told Colin Cowherd  during the Wednesday broadcast of “The Herd.”

Based strictly on the evidence, it sure looks like Klatt might have some credibility to his argument. How is Mississippi State still ranked? They got beat by a depleted Ole Miss team that couldn’t hang with just about anybody this season.

Look, there is a value in keeping Alabama in strictly from a television standpoint. They’re going to draw larger ratings than the likes of a Miami or a few other teams that could get in.

But maybe they don’t belong there. They have played a weak schedule, they lost their one game against a very good team and they won’t be a conference champion. It’s embarrassing that we’re even having this conversation.
