Former President Barack Obama criticized the Democratic Party  for being led by “old people” Friday during a three country tour to promote his new foundation.

Obama, in the midst of a tour to talk up the Obama Foundation, said that a major issue in all political parties, including the Democratic one, is a lack of youth involvement, at town hall in New Delhi, India.

“The Democratic party in the United States, I’m a very proud member, but the truth is, that we have a lot of leadership that’s been there for — since I was a kid! Or at least in college,” Obama told those gathered, adding that a “political party full of really old people” is an issue that affects parties around the world.

The former president also warned that having old leadership could cause a political party to lose their connection to current events.

“The other thing is that over time, if you have been a leader for too long in the same spot you start losing touch. I mean, you don’t have a feel for what’s happening because you get set in your ways and new things happen and what’s true for political parties is true for every organization,” Obama added.

The Obama Foundation was launched in early November in Chicago, complete with a yoga session and people writing down their dreams for the future in chalk.
