Many people around the industry speculated that McAdoo was on his way out after he benched the franchise quarterback last week in shocking fashion. ESPN’s Ian Rapoport announced the news of his firing on Monday just a day after a 17-24 loss against the Oakland Raiders in Smith’s first start as a quarterback. The Giants have also terminated the team’s general manager, Jerry Reese.

McAdoo took over the role as head coach less than two years ago after the team fired Tom Coughlin, who led the franchise to two Super Bowl victories. On the other hand, McAdoo led the Giants to only 11 wins and one trip to the playoffs with a wild-card spot in his first year.

The Giants have been plagued by injury in the 2017-18 season and are just 2-10 on the season after their loss to the Raiders on Sunday. It seems that the unexpected move with Manning might have been the final straw for McAdoo. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will take over as head coach and assistant general manager Kevin Abrams will take over the role as general manager in the interim position.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens with the Manning now that the team is under new leadership.
