Luckily, he won’t need surgery, according to WPXI’s Jennifer Tomazic.
Ryan Shazier is still at a Cincinnati hospital but he is improving but he won’t need surgery on his back. Such good news to report. @WPXI_Lori is getting new details from the Steelers this morning on @WPXI.

It doesn’t get much scarier than that play. Absolutely horrifying for Shazier. Moments like that one make everybody stop and think for a second about just how dangerous the game of football can get.
Of course, it’s a freak play that you’ll almost never see. In my mind that’s one of the scariest parts. Just completely unexpected and he might never play football again. I obviously hope my previous statement turns out to be incorrect. You never want to see a guy go down with an injury.
