Basketball star Dennis Rodman said in Guam Thursday that he would give his life to get President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un to come together.

An unusual individual, Rodman has ties to both Trump and Kim, and has made multiple trips to North Korea. While he asserts that he is not interested in global crisis, he has a lot to say about North Korea, a hot topic these days as the rogue regime advances its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. “I would sacrifice my life…for those two guys to get together. I would go there and put my life on the line,” Rodman said on the U.S. territory of Guam, according to the Pacific News Center.

The retired basketball hall-of-famer visited the North Korean state in 2013, 2014, and again in 2017, and he has had numerous conversations with Kim, who Rodman says is a “friend for life.”

“To me, [Kim] does not want to have war … it may sound like that on the news, but I see that Donald Trump and him … it’s more like two big kids deciding who’s the toughest,” Rodman told reporters. “I don’t know why he would, in my eyes, remotely even think about bombing anything in the world. I’ve never heard him say anything like that to my face, and we talk all the time.”

While he took time to answer a few questions about the North Korea crisis, Rodman stressed that he is really about sports. “I try and stay out of it. I try to just be his friend, and play sports, and that’s my whole thing,” he said, talking about Kim. “No politics, no nothing about America against North Korea, we don’t talk about stuff like that.”

The unexpected unofficial ambassador to the rogue regime stressed that he is visiting Guam out of interest in the U.S. territory, which he called “paradise.” He also said he is there to show North Korea that if they want to do something crazy, he’s there, USA Today reported.

“I just came here to try and see if I could bridge the gap, and show the leader of North Korea that I’m not afraid to come here and if something even happened, I’ll be here,” he explained, “For Guam. If anything happens, I’ll be here. If you guys can take the punishment, I’ll take the punishment too.”

Back in August, North Korea threatened to ring Guam, home to more than 100,000 Americans and numerous strategic military assets, with fire, repeatedly telling the U.S. that he intended to instruct the Korean People’s Army’s Strategic Rocket Forces to launch multiple Hwasong-12 intermediate-range missiles at the territory. The North Korean leader did not end up ordering such a provocative strike, but he did order the military to fire missiles over Japan into the Pacific Ocean to demonstrate that the regime does possess the necessary capabilities should it choose to fire on Guam.
