Republican Strategist Susan del Percio said Al Franken was “collateral damage” Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“Also, when it comes to Moore, look at the journalism that was done. They found 30 sources to back that up. This wasn’t a woman going to a celebrity lawyer looking and making an allegation,” Del Percio stated.

“This was a piece of journalism. Conyers, and some of the other Congressmen who are now resigning, what is that about? There’s payout, this is about money, and we’re going to start seeing that from now on,” she continued

“Well I was actually talking about Al Franken,” Mika Brzezinski said.

“Well when it comes to Al Franken, he’s collateral damage. There’s just no way else to put it,” Del Percio responded.

Minnesota Senator Al Franken announced his resignation in the coming weeks following allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

His speech to the Senate reflected bitter sentiment of his resignation rather than heartfelt apology, stating, “I also think it gave some people the false impression that I was admitting to doing things that in fact I haven’t done. Some of the allegations against me are simply not true. Others I remember very differently. I said at the outset that the ethics committee was the right venue for these allegations to be heard and investigated and evaluated on their merits.”

Franken did not actually apologize to his accusers during his speech.

Immediately after announcing his impending resignation, Franken attempted to deflect his wrongdoings to other political matters.

“I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of the sexual assault sits in the Oval Office and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party.”
