House Speaker Paul Ryan denied reporters he’s contemplating retirement, telling reporters Thursday he has no plans to step down anytime soon.

“I ain’t going anywhere,” he said while leaving the Capitol.

His comments follow a Politico report alleging the Wisconsin Republican has been confiding in top aides and family members that he’s considering retiring before the next election cycle.

Ryan’s office dismissed the rumors, saying the reports are unfounded.

“This is pure speculation. As the speaker himself said today, he’s not going anywhere any time soon,” Ryan spokeswoman AshLee Strong said in a statement.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Donald Trump called the speaker to discuss the retirement rumors, telling the press he was assured Ryan had no plans to step down.

“The president did speak to the Speaker not too long ago and made sure that the Speaker knew very clearly … that if that news was true he was very unhappy with it,” she said at the daily press briefing.
