A Dallas school board voted unanimously Thursday to assign new names to three elementary schools named after Confederate generals.

The board of trustees for Dallas Independent School District decided to swap Stonewall Jackson Elementary with Mockingbird Elementary School, Robert E. Lee Elementary for Geneva Heights Elementary, and William L. Cabell Elementary with Chapel Hill Preparatory, reported NBC 5. The school district is in a wealthy, white neighborhood near Southern Methodist University.

Miguel Solis, a school board trustee, described “a path for remediation and for real conversations about equity and equality and how to move our city forward” at the board’s meeting.

The district estimates the name changes will cost $150,000, accounting for the changes made to murals and signs at the schools.

“I don’t want to see it change,” said Scott Tinsley, who has two children attending Stonewall Jackson Elementary. “I think it’s kind of pointless. It’s a waste of taxpayer money.”

The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to the trustees for further comment, but received none in time for press. (RELATED: City Votes Unanimously To Rename Three Confederate Schools For $40,000)

The district’s decision mirrors that made by Fairfax County School Board in Virginia, which removed the “J.E.B.” from J.E.B. Stuart High School, as well as the choice made by the Oklahoma City school board to rename three Confederate schools.
