A strong majority of President Donald Trump’s supporters and detractors are united on one thing: they both want to be greeted with “Merry Christmas” over “Happy Holidays,” according to a Monday poll from Axios.

Nearly 65 percent of Americans want to be greeted with “Merry Christmas,” while a much smaller 28 percent prefer “Happy Holidays,” the poll finds. The results appear to give conservatives a big victory in their longstanding promise to end the so-called “War on Christmas.”

Eighty-six percent of the president’s followers want store greeters to say “Merry Christmas,” while only 11 percent prefer the alternative, according to the poll. But even Trump haters prefer it, albeit by a narrower margin.

Trump’s die-hard opponents support saying Merry Christmas over Happy Holidays by a 52 to 40 percent margin. Axios’ findings come after the president turned up the heat on people who believe the preferred greeting is not inclusive enough to include non-Christians.

“If I become president, we’re going to be saying Merry Christmas at every store,” he promised supporters during the early part of the 2016 presidential election. It was one of the many times he made such a yuletide pledge.

Trump repeated the promise against in October 2017.

“Guess what?” the president told those gathered at a Values Voter Summit. “We’re saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again.”
