Graham Wants Trump To Create A Pathway To Citizenship For Illegal Immigrants
Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina urged President Trump Tuesday to back his efforts to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
“You created an opportunity here, Mr. President, and you need to close the deal,” Graham told the president, according to a White House pool report.
“If you want to take it that further step, I’ll take the heat,” Trump responded. “You are not that far away from comprehensive immigration reform.”
Graham is a longtime advocate of a pathway to citizenship for immigrants. He was a co-sponsor of a bipartisan bill in June 2017 that would offer a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children.
The president also said he is confident that lawmakers can come to a legislative solution for the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and successfully pass comprehensive immigration reform.
