President Donald Trump caused outrage Thursday afternoon by calling various third world countries “shitholes” in a meeting with lawmakers at the White House.

In a private meeting with lawmakers, Trump is quoted as saying:

“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

The president was referring to immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries and a proposal to restore protections to them.

In response, CNN White House Correspondent Jim Acosta went live on CNN and repeatedly said the word “shithole.” Acosta said the word at least three times on-air.
  1. “‘Why are we having all of these people from,’ — and I apologize for using this word here, but this is a quote from the president — ‘why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?’”
  2. “This meeting behind closed doors, in which the president referred to countries like Haiti and countries in Africa as a ‘shithole.’”
  3. “And I noticed Wolf, you hesitated to use that word, I hesitate to use it myself, as an s-hole or shithole is the word that the Washington Post is quoting the president saying,” Acosta said.
In one of the same diatribes, Acosta called the president a “racist” saying the “president seems to harbor racist feelings about people of color.”

The administration is currently attempting to reach a deal on giving illegal aliens who came to the U.S. as minors permanent legalization. We have yet to see how the comments will affect the legislation.
