John Legend was clearly upset about Donald Trump reportedly referring to immigrants from “s***hole countries” in a meeting on Thursday and accused the president of being a racist “for his entire public life” in response.

“Why are we having all these people from s***hole countries come here?” Trump asked in a bipartisan meeting about immigrants, The Washington Post reported. The president was seemingly referring to people from Haiti, El Salvador and several African countries, leading to the media and others like Legend to lose their collective minds. “The president is a racist. He has been for his entire public life. If you vote(d) for him, you do so because of that or despite that. We need a multi-racial anti-racist coalition to defeat him and try to heal our nation,” Legend wrote on Twitter.

Trump has since denied using that specific language in the DACA meeting and has tried to clarify his comments on Twitter.

“The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used,” he wrote Friday morning.

The president then followed that tweet with another and said he should probably record the meetings he takes part in to avoid being misquoted in the future.

“Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said ‘take them out.’ Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings – unfortunately, no trust!”
