“Mr. President, it is a testament to the condition of our democracy that our own President uses words infamously spoken by Josef Stalin to describe his enemies,” Flake will say on the floor of the Senate, noting Trump’s past reference to the media as “the enemy of the people.”
The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!

“When a figure in power reflexively calls any press that doesn’t suit him ‘fake news,’ it is that person who should be the figure of suspicion, not the press.”
Flake has repeatedly criticized the president throughout the 2016 campaign and his first year in office. The Arizona senator announced in October he would not seek re-election in 2018 saying he “will no longer be complicit or silent” on Trump’s “reckless, outrageous and undignified” behavior.
