Shurmur is the Vikings’ current offensive coordinator and is credited with turning the Minnesota offense around. According to NFL rules, the Giants won’t be able to talk directly with the Vikings franchise until next week, once their season is over or the team has a bye week before the Super Bowl.
Pat Shurmur is the Giants’ top choice to be their next head coach, sources say, but the Giants can’t make anything official until after the Vikings’ season ends.

Shurmur has a pretty extensive resume in the NFL. Before joining the Vikings he was the Cleveland Browns’ head coach for two years. He also worked as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator during the 2015 season.
If Shurmur does end up going to work for the Giants, he’ll have a considerable amount of ground to make up. The Giants fired their 2017 head coach Ben McAdoo after he led them to a 3-13 season and infamously benched Eli Manning at the end of the season.
