Scientists discovered a “rainbow” dinosaur fossil in northeastern China and determined the Jurassic Period creature had colorful and iridescent feathers, according to a Monday Reuters report.

The discovery from China’s Hebei Province “suggests a more colorful Jurassic World than we previously imagined,” said Evolutionary biologist Chad Eliason of the Field Museum in Chicago.

Scientists used powerful microscopes to examine the fossil of a crow-sized dinosaur and named it “Caihong juji,” the Mandarin phrase for “rainbow with a big chest,” according to a Nature Magazine study published online Jan. 15. Evolutionary biologists claim the dinosaur lived 161 million years ago, reported Reuters.

Caihong had dark feathers on its body and iridescent feathers on its head and neck. The dinosaur was a carnivore and weighed around one pound, said Xing Xu, a co-author on the study, reported the National Geographic Magazine.
