South Africa will hold a diplomatic protest over President Donald Trump‘s reported “shithole countries” comment, its government announced Monday.

The announcement comes after Trump reportedly used the term “shithole” to describe Haiti and El Salvador during a bipartisan immigration sit down at The White House Thursday. Although Trump has denied using the word, he has continued to face widespread criticism from Democratic lawmakers and pundits quick to label the remark as “racist.”

South Africa will join the list of critics and formally protest to the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, the capital of the country, CNN first reported. The statement said The Department of International Relations and Cooperation would be protesting Trump’s “disturbing comments.”

“The Department will provide an opportunity to the Charges de Affaires to explain the statement that African countries, alongside Haiti and El Salvador, constitute ‘shitholes’ from where migrants into the United States are undesirable,” the Department of International Relations said in a statement to the press.

The statement mentioned comments from the African Union, that called for Trump to apologize for the alleged comments. (RELATED: Trump: ‘I’m The Least Racist Person’)

“South Africa aligns itself with the statements issued by the African Union and the Africa group of Ambassadors to the United Nations in New York. Africa is united in its affirmation of the dignity of the people of Africa and the African diaspora,” the statement continued.

South Africa said their relationship with the U.S. “must be based on mutual respect and understanding.”

Trump has continued to deny the alleged comments and defended himself Sunday night, telling the press he is “the least racist person” they will ever interview.
