American music legend Kid Rock turned 47 years old today, and that’s a reason to celebrate.

I love Kid Rock, and I probably don’t want to be your friend if you don’t like Kid Rock at least a little bit.

I went to my first Kid Rock concert about 18 months ago at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. It was awesome. I was crushing beers, soaking up the experience and getting blasted the to the music. If that’s not what America is all about then I don’t know what is.

Kid Rock came out through a bunch of smoke, jumped onto the stage and started cranking away to one of his songs as I double-fisted Bud Light tallboys. It was almost a religious experience. You don’t know what a bunch of young hot Republicans getting trashed to Kid Rock is like until you see it firsthand.

You don’t even have to be a fan to admit that he has some pretty awesome songs.

So, I tip my cap and crack a beer to Kid Rock. It’s been a hell of a ride, and I hope it’s not over yet.

P.S.: That fake run for the Senate was still one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time.

UPDATE: An eagle-eyed follower on Twitter pointed out that I forgot to include one of his greatest tweets of all-time in this piece. Hand up. That’s on me. I should have been better. Props to me for being man enough to admit when I’m wrong.
