A course at Salisbury University suggests that “remaining apolitical” and saying “two sides to every story” are part of the “pyramid of white supremacy,” according to a Wednesday report.
Professor Erin Stutelberg‘s course, “Diversity and the Self,” is mandatory for Salisbury students that want to receive an elementary education major, reported Campus Reform.
The proposed pyramid of white supremacy is divided into seven parts: “indifference” occupies the base, followed by “minimization, veiled racism, discrimination, calls for violence, violence, and genocide.”
“Remaining apolitical” and “two sides to every story,” along with “not challenging racist jokes” and “avoiding confrontation with racist family members” comprise sections of indifference.
The minimization tier features statements like “why can’t we all just get along?” and “it doesn’t matter who you vote for,” and the veiled racism floor includes victim blaming and cultural appropriation.
Confederate flags and the n-word are listed under “calls for violence.”

“We had to study the pyramid and also take a group quiz,” an anonymous student in the course told Campus Reform. “I find it ridiculous that ‘unjust police shootings’ is at the top of the list next to mass murder and genocide.”
“The pyramid was not only biased, the way they ranked the events did not make much sense,” remarked the student, saying that Stutelberg’s class, instead of instructing students in diversity, taught them that being white was bad.
Salisbury University did not seem to view the pyramid’s content as questionable, when reached for contact by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
“All texts are up for interpretation,” said Richard Culver, spokesman for the school, to TheDCNF. “This text (or any text) is not used to promote one ‘truth;’ it’s about generating conversations, questioning, critical thinking, and deeper understanding in students.”
“The courses on diversity were created in response to requests by school districts to help future teachers become better prepared to support learning among diverse student populations,” explained Culver.
