House Speaker Paul Ryan addressed the March For Life Friday and made an argument that had the pro-life crowd roaring.

The march is the annual gathering of hundreds of thousands of pro-life activist in the nation’s capital. The activists march through the capital on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in 1973.

Ryan addressed the hundreds of thousands gathered at the base of the Washington Monument saying, “What a crowd!” and commenting on the number of young people in the audience.

Ryan, a practicing Catholic, then jumped into an argument that had the crowd roaring. Ryan asked the crowd, “Do you know why the pro life movement is on the rise?” then declared, “Because truth is on our side. Life begins at conception. Because science is on our side!”

The crowd cheered. Ryan continued:

Just look at the ultrasounds that have shown us more about the preborn child than ever before. How they develop. How they react. How they feel pain. Most importantly, the pro life movement is on the rise because we have love on our side. We believe every person is worthy of love and dignity.

Ryan is correct, according to a recent report by The Atlantic, which states that:

“Scientific progress is remaking the debate around abortion. When the U.S. Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade, the case that led the way to legal abortion, it pegged most fetuses’ chance of viable life outside the womb at 28 weeks; after that point, it ruled, states could reasonably restrict women’s access to the procedure. Now, with new medical techniques, doctors are debating whether that threshold should be closer to 22 weeks.

These advances fundamentally shift the moral intuition around abortion. New technology makes it easier to apprehend the humanity of a growing child and imagine a fetus as a creature with moral status. Over the last several decades, pro-life leaders have increasingly recognized this and rallied the power of scientific evidence to promote their cause.

President Trump also made history Friday by becoming the first president to visually address the March For Life.

As previously reported by The Daily Caller, The Trump administration has made the abortion issue an important policy point by reversing the Mexico City Policy, which allowed for taxpayer funding of abortions overseas, and pushing the pain-capable bill for unborn babies in Congress.

In recent years, polling has shown that the American public has become significantly more pro-life and abortion rates have declined significantly over the last two decades.
