Mika Brzezinski told former Mexican President Vincente Fox, whose recent book calls President Trump a “false prophet,” that “more people are going the other way” across the Mexican border Wednesday morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

“I’m sorry for my voice,” the former Mexican president said as his voice petered out throughout the interview.

“That’s the case with Trump. I think this nation, I sense it has fear since September 11th, he tries to see enemies everywhere, even in Mexico with your neighbor. So, that’s something that he is abusing of, taking advantage of, to have his followers,” Fox said.

“And abusing detail, I mean Mexico, more people are going the other way across the border, first of all and saying Mexico will pay for the wall, is not only possibly incredibly untrue or maybe just complicated but even more so setting up even more of a sense of hatred between the people,” commented Brzezinski.

Brzezinski was likely citing a 2015 study from the Pew Research Center, which saw a net decrease in Mexican illegal immigrants in the United States from 2009-2014.

However, Brzezinski did not differentiate between legal or illegal immigrants crossing the U.S. border into Mexico, nor the nationality of those migrating.

So, not exactly apples to apples here, Mika.
