Things got a little spiritual Thursday at Davos when former Vice President Al Gore said a prayer that President Donald Trump would be replaced in 2020 so that the United States could stay in the Paris climate agreement.

During a panel at the annual meeting of the rich and powerful in Switzerland, Gore made the case that the U.S. can’t legally leave the global climate treaty until after the next presidential election. It was after this assertion that he offered a prayer for a change of leadership after Trump’s first term.

Gore also said there was “strong momentum” domestically to fight climate change, according to The Guardian, and explained how governors and mayors from around the country are making sure their states and cities meet the commitments made in the original Paris agreement.

He did hedge, however, and say that despite all of the efforts the United States and global community to lower carbon output, it falls “far short of the minimum of what is needed to battle climate change.”
