CNN political commentator Van Jones praised the Federal Bureau of Investigation as “sacred” and blamed the Republican party for scrutinizing them and making the country less safe, Friday on “New Day.”

“When you have liberal Democrats having to defend the FBI, something is really wrong. Let me just say this to you and everybody else,”Jones said. “We’re going to need the FBI this afternoon, tomorrow. The FBI is trying to keep us safe from terrorism. If you create a situation where somebody knocks on the door and says ‘I’m from the FBI. I’m trying to find out what’s going on.’ And somebody goes, ‘eh, you are part of the Illuminati, some secret society blah blah blah.’ That makes everybody less safe.”

“You desperately want for something to be sacred in America. And if the Republican party won’t let law enforcement be safe because they want to protect Donald Trump, we are in deep trouble in America,” Jones added.

WATCH:

Host John Berman used the segment as an opportunity to plug Jones’ upcoming weekend show on CNN and claimed both liberals and conservatives love listening to him.

“So Van Jones you say these are crazy times. I say they’re exciting times. Because you have a show debuting tomorrow night,” Berman said. “People are fascinated by you. I think both the left and the right loves to listen to you and hear what you have to say. What’s the show going to be?”

Jones said the show is a chance to hear from people who do not have a voice in today’s society and said part of the show will be called “Van in a van” and will see Jones drive around with liberals and conservatives, arguing politics on the road.

He also said there would be hard-hitting pop culture segments with guests like rapper Jay-Z.

“With the rise of Donald Trump, pop culture took over politics. Now politics is taking over pop culture,” Jones concluded. “So we’ve got Jay-Z. The superstar of all superstars is going to be on and we are going to have a couple segments talking to him about what the heck is going on from his point of view. So a little populism, a little pop stars. The idea though is to take a step back on the weekend and really reflect what’s going on in a deeper way with voices you don’t get to hear very often.”
