Democratic Senator Joe Manchin told House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to stop her divisive rhetoric on immigration and work with the Republican party, Sunday on CNN’s “State of The Union.”

Host Jake Tapper played a clip of Pelsoi claiming President Donald Trump’s immigration plan seeks to “make America white again,” and then asked Manchin what he thought of the quote.

“You know what, we don’t need that type of rhetoric on either side. From Nancy, Paul Ryan or anybody else” said Manchin, of West Virginia. “We have the wall. We need to repair the wall. We’ll need to build more wall. We need to do whatever we can to secure the borders.”

Manchin said Congress is set to meet Monday evening to discuss immigration reform and discouraged any thoughts of another government shutdown.

“We’re going to meet Monday night, start over again. Trying to find that commonality that we’ve been able to do. And there’s no way that anyone should be considering any more of a shutdown, even talking the nonsense of a shutdown,” he said. “Let’s get down to business and fix it. And we can do it. The president’s laid out what he wants. That’s a good starting point. Let’s see if it’s something we can agree on. Something we need to adjust and something we can negotiate with.”

Tapper looked surprised at Manchin’s answers and said, “But you condemned Nancy Pelosi’s rhetoric.”

“I’m condemning all this crazy rhetoric that goes on,” Manchin replied. “Just because someone is Republican, is not my enemy and we have to work together.”

“Got it,” Tapper shot back before changing the subject.
