Environmentalists are flaying Bill Nye “The Science Guy” for agreeing to attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech.

Activists are urging Nye not to attend the upcoming address, saying that doing so would make the comedian a bigot and climate denier. Nye accepted an invitation to the speech from Trump’s choice to head NASA.

“Bill, please be the Science Guy, not the Bigoted Climate Denial Guy,” environmentalist groups ClimateTruth.org, Climate Hawks Vote, MoveOn.org, and Demand Progress wrote Friday in a petition to the celebrity environmentalist.

“Cancel your plans to attend Trump’s State of the Union as Rep. [Jim] Bridenstine’s guest,” it noted, referring to Oklahoma Republican Rep. Jim Bridenstine, who’s nomination for the top NASA spot is yet to be confirmed.

The groups are also placing pressure on Bridenstine to withdraw his nomination as Trump. They have launched a website called stopbridenstine.com to oppose him.

“He has no business running NASA,” the activist’s petition read. “As you know, NASA performs critical climate science research and if the Senate confirms Bridenstine’s nomination he could work with President Trump to end NASA’s earth science missions and ground essential research satellites.”

Nye has come back into the public eye recently with his Netflix show “Bill Nye Saves the World,” which has already been criticized for its bizarre segments and angry tone — though his “Sexual Spectrum” episode did win an Emmy.
