New Mexico police have arrested a mom for allegedly giving her daughter candy laced with cannabis, deputies said Tuesday.

Silvia Rubio, 38, from southern New Mexico, was charged with distributing marijuana to a minor and child abuse after a principal found Rubio’s 13-year-old daughter carrying chocolates laced with THC around the school back in November, reported KFOX14.

The mother was charged after an investigation, according to the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office.

Rubio claimed that she was a homeopathic doctor with a medical marijuana card and a personal production license. The mother added that she gave her unnamed daughter the THC gummies but not the chocolate candy to help with anxiety. Unlocked cabinets filled with chocolate candy laced with cannabis were also found in the house.

The 13-year-old’s drug test showed that she had psychoactive parts of marijuana in her system, added The New York Post.

Rubio is currently held in jail without bond.
