A professor who teaches a “white racism” course said there is “no such thing as black racism,” in an article Monday.

Florida Gulf Coast University professor Ted Thornhill teaches a course entitled “White Racism” and defended both the course and his assertion that black racism did not exist, in an op-ed republished on The Conversation.

Thornhill quoted American Sociological Association President Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, who said that racism constituted power plus systemic privilege.

“Blacks did not develop and benefit from a centuries-old comprehensive system of racial oppression comprised of laws, policies, practices, traditions and an accompanying ideology — one that promotes the biological, intellectual and cultural superiority of whites to dominate other groups,” the professor wrote. “Europeans and their white descendants, however, did.”

Thornhill derided what he called the “myth” of a colorblind or “post-racial” society.

“The United States is white supremacist in nature,” insisted the professor, proceeding to offer a plethora of links in support of his point. “The evidence shows that race still matters in the labor market and workplace, education, and even in access to clean water. Race matters in health care, the criminal justice system, and even everyday retail and dining experiences.”

Thornhill’s first spring 2018 “White Racism” class received protection from two police officers after the professor received emails which, while not threatening violence or class disruption, called Thornhill racial slurs, reported Fox News.

Students who disagreed with his point of view could still earn an “A” in his course, the professor claimed in the op-ed, provided they submitted quality work. He noted that Michael Martin, president of Florida Gulf Coast University, defended his academic freedom to teach “White Racism.”

The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to Thornhill for comment, but received none in time for press.
