A member of a Texas house church went berserk Wednesday evening and stabbed the pastor and three others before police detained him.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, attacked his fellow members of a Corpus Christi church with a knife shortly after 7 p.m., according to WYFF 4. The unnamed culprit stabbed the pastor multiple times in the chest, stabbed a band member in the neck, and also stabbed two church members who tried to pull him off of the pastor.

Police Lt. Jay Clement told the Corpus Christi Caller Times that the man has been a parishioner of the nondenominational church for a long time and that no one has any idea as to what would motivate him to attack. Both the pastor and the band member are in the hospital, where medical professionals said their injuries were life threatening. The two members who tried to intervene sustained puncture wounds, one to the arm and one to the hand, but are not in critical condition.

The gathering of church members in the house numbered between 15 and 20 people. Clement told the Caller Times that the members had been gathering at the house every day as part of a 40 day prayer pledge. The attacker is currently in police custody.
