President Donald Trump delivered a conciliatory speech before the National Prayer Breakfast Thursday.
“Our currency declares, ‘In God we trust,’ and we place our hands on our hearts as we recite the pledge of allegiance and proclaim we are one nation under God,” The president declared in a common refrain. He continued, “That is why the words ‘Praise be to God’ are etched atop the Washington monument, and those same words are etched into the hearts of our people. So today we praise God for how truly blessed we are to be American.”
Trump did not repeat the controversy of his 2017 address before the national prayer breakfast of 2017 when he took a shot at Arnold Schwarzenegger’s sagging ratings on the Celebrity Apprentice, a show which rocketed the president to fame in the late 2000’s.
“They hired a big, big movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to take my place,” Trump said in 2017, adding, “and we know how that turned out. The ratings went down the tubes. … I want to just pray for Arnold, if we can, for those ratings.”
