James O’Keefe, the 34-year-old “muckraker journalist” and founder of Project Veritas, decried mainstream media for behaving “like blackbirds on a telephone wire” and flocking from one narrative to the next, in an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“If you go outside that narrative, go against the grain, and expose facts that are outside of the order, you will get mercilessly and viciously attacked,” O’Keefe said.

In his new book, “American Pravda: My Fight for Truth in the Era of Fake News,” O’Keefe details the legal, personal, and even physical attacks he has endured, which he finds the most surprising.

O’Keefe, who formed Project Veritas in 2010, talked about exposing the media, specifically naming CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, “and now Silicon Valley – the most powerful institutions who can transform a democracy.”

“If we don’t as citizens overcome our fears, and actually challenge the orthodoxy, you end up as a country of moral feckless cowards,” O’Keefe said. “The media has more power in the Western countries than the executive, legislative, and judicial branch. But to whom is it accountable?”

“I’m very concerned that we will end up as a country where no one has any ability to challenge these people because they’re going to get targeted and shamed,” O’Keefe said.

He talked about going undercover in the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2016. Those videos of Robert Creamer, the husband of progressive Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky, became an “internet phenomenon and were credited with having a significant impact.” O’Keefe claims that he got no Pulitzer Prize, however, “just a blizzard of legal attacks.”

When discussing Creamer and Democracy Partners’ $1 million lawsuit designed to intimidate him, O’Keefe said, “It was just good reporting, and they’re suing us.”

“We have engineers at Twitter on tape talking about ‘shadow-banning’ people” where Twitter censors opposing political messages and people by surreptitiously cloaking tweets, O’Keefe said. “They’re admitting this.”

Twitter released a statement denying it, but O’Keefe has engineers on tape admitting to it.

O’Keefe also mentioned the stunning letter to Facebook and Twitter by California Democrats Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Adam Schiff on Jan. 23, where they asked the social media giants to investigate the Russian influence over the intense #ReleaseTheMemo social media campaign about the weaponization of the Obama administration FBI and Department of Justice.

As for regular citizens, O’Keefe said they can use social media and email to distribute the truth, support what Project Veritas does, put pressure on lawmakers, become an independent journalist, and most importantly “not believe the mainstream media.”

“If people stop believing the media they have no relevance. It’s a fight to the finish between Donald Trump and the mainstream media, and I think Trump is winning,” O’Keefe said.

O’Keefe was honored with one of the 2017 Impact Awards. For more information on O’Keefe, you can follow him on his Facebook page or on Twitter. Project Veritas also has a Facebook page and Twitter.
