President Donald Trump explained on Twitter Saturday his decision not to declassify a memo written by Democrats in response to a shocking Republican memo.

The president stressed that the memo put together by the Democrats was clearly a political trap and revealed that he has instructed the left to give it another shot.

Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, drafted a response to the memo from Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes, who revealed how a questionable anti-Trump dossier was used to justify FBI surveillance of former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page.

While the president was reportedly “inclined” to let the the rebuttal compiled by Democratic members of the House Intelligence Committee go public, the 10-page document will not be released because it “contains numerous properly classified and especially secretive passages,” White House Counsel Donald McGahn told Nunes in a letter Friday.

Trump said earlier on Friday that he intended to release the memo, asserting, “It’s gonna be released soon … We’re going to release a letter.”

The president has since decided against that.
