Missouri lawmakers are debating to create an official holiday to celebrate sliced bread, according to a report Monday.

A bill to create “Sliced Bread Day” is currently in the House and could get passed and sent to the Missouri state Senate as early as next week, The Associated Press reported. The official state holiday would be celebrated July 7 in Missouri.

The potential holiday has a certain historical significance, since Missouri was also the first state to commercially sell sliced bread July 7, 1928, reported NPR.

Supporters of the legislation believe that an official holiday to celebrate sliced bread could benefit tourism.

The northern city of Chillicothe was the first place to sell sliced bread and could attract tourists to celebrate the historical significance. Every year, the city holds a Sliced Bread Jam Bluegrass Festival.

Chillicothe has approximately 9,500 inhabitants.
