Special Counsel Robert Mueller interviewed former White House strategist Steve Bannon on multiple days this week for approximately 20 hours, according to NBC News.

Mueller subpoenaed Bannon last month after the publication of a book included quotes from the former Breitbart News chairman discussing potential criminal charges against members of President Donald Trump’s administration.

The NBC News report hit shortly after Bannon left a closed-door interview with the House Intelligence Committee.

During that interview, Bannon refused to answer most questions about his work on the Trump transition team and during his White House stint. He joined the Trump campaign in Aug. 2016 and left the White House almost exactly one year later.

Republicans and Democrats on the Intelligence Committee said that Bannon showed up with a list of 25 questions that had been provided to him by the White House.

Texas Rep. Mike Conaway, a Republican, told reporters after the session that he was frustrated with Bannon’s refusal to answer questions about his tenure on the Trump team.

The congressman left open the possibility that Congress will consider holding the former Breitbart News chairman in contempt.

Committee Democrats called directly for contempt proceedings.

“I think the next step for the Congress to take is to initiate contempt proceedings,” California Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat, told reporters.

Bannon has been reluctant to speak with the Intelligence Committee, however, he has reportedly told associates that he planned to answer all of Mueller’s questions.
