The Women’s March is planning a nationwide walkout next month to protest Congress’s inaction on cracking down on school shootings in light of Florida’s recent mass shooting, the group announced.

The group is calling on all students, teachers, parents, school officials and anyone else who supports the cause to “walkout” of classrooms for exactly 17 minutes on Mar. 14. The walkout’s goal is to thwart Congress’s tweets about “thoughts and prayers” and to pass legislation that would actually stop gun violence, the event description reads.

“Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school,” the group noted in the Facebook post. “Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day.”

The protest comes after former student Nikolas Cruz shot up Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, killing 17 people and wounding others. While Cruz reportedly told police officers he was the shooter, his lawyer said he would plead guilty to the shooting if the death penalty was taken off the table.

The FBI reportedly received a January tip about Cruz owning a weapon and expressing a desire to kill people. The department, however, did not follow proper protocol and relay the information to the Miami field office.
