Netflix dropped the trailer for its new movie “The Outsider” Thursday.

The plot of the movie, according to Netflix’s YouTube description, is, “An American soldier imprisoned in postwar Japan enters the dark world of the yakuza, adopting their way of life in repayment for his freedom.”

Jared Leto stars in the lead role of the imprisoned American soldier. The trailer paints a picture of Leto sympathizing and aligning with the Yakuza against the American forces in Japan.

It’s an interesting premise to contemplate.

Americans love war movies, especially those placed during WWII. That’s why I’m intrigued by this concept. It’s not exactly a war movie, but we really never see films about what happened in Japan after WWII. So, you can bank that it’ll draw interest for the premise on that basis alone.

Add in Jared Leto, and I think you’re sitting with the formula for a hit movie. Leto is one of the most talented actors around, and has a habit of crushing it in every movie he’s in. I’m fairly confident “The Outsider” will be a solid movie.

It is scheduled to be released March 9.
