“Fire and Fury” author Michael Wolff ended an interview on Australian TV after being asked about his now-retracted claim that President Donald Trump has had an affair in the White House.

Wolff, who was interviewed from London for Australia’s morning talk show “Today,” walked off the set after claiming that he was unable to hear questions about his allegations that Trump is having an affair.

But evidence emerged that the journalist was perfectly able to hear the questions, which were posed by host Ben Fordham. Footage from “Today’s” London studio showed that Fordham’s questions could be heard in Wolff’s earpiece. (RELATED: Wolff Finally Admits He Has No Idea If Trump Is Having An Affair)

Wolff cut the interview short as he was being asked about his claim in January that he was “absolutely sure” that Trump was having an affair in the White House. He also hinted that Trump’s mistress was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, an allegation she called “disgusting.”

Wolff backtracked from the affair accusations in an interview on Dutch television Thursday.

“I do not know if the president is having an affair,” said Wolff, whose book about the Trump White House has been found to have numerous errors and inaccuracies.

Fordham, the “Today” host, pressed Wolff to apologize for his initial allegation.

“You said during a TV interview last month that you are absolutely sure that Donald Trump is currently having an affair, while President, behind the back of the First Lady. I repeat, you said you were absolutely sure,” Fordham began.

“Hold on, I can’t …,” Wolff responded as he began adjusting his earpiece.

Fordham pressed, saying: “Last week, you backflipped and said, ‘I do not know if the President is having an affair.’ Do you owe the President and the First Lady an apology, Mr Wolff?”

“I can’t hear you. Hello?” said Wolff.

“Just last month you said you were absolutely sure that the President was having an affair, and now you say he is not,” Fordham continued.

“I’m not getting anything,” said Wolff as he began removing his earpiece.

Fordham noted that Wolff had no trouble hearing him until he began asking tough questions about his claims about the affair.

“Mr Wolff was hearing me before, but he’s not hearing me anymore … so the interview may be over,” he said.

Wolff is then seen leaving the set in London.

Shortly after the segment ended, “Today’s” London studio shared audio from Wolff’s end of the camera which appeared to show that he could hear Fordham’s questions.

“That appears to be the audio coming through the earpiece on Mr. Wolff’s end … which would suggest that he could hear you loud and clear,” said another “Today” anchor.

“So he could hear me!” Fordham exclaimed when being told that Wolff likely heard his questions.

“He decided to tell a porky pie about not being able to hear me,” added Fordham, using Cockney slang for lying.
