President Donald Trump blasted Florida sheriff deputies for allegedly failing to enter Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School immediately after the recent school shooting, in a Monday speech.

“I got to watch some deputy sheriffs performing this weekend, they weren’t exactly medal of honor winners. The way they performed was frankly disgusting. They were listening to what was going on, one in particular and then you had three others that probably would be a little bit later, a similar kind of a thing.”

Trump’s comments follow a recent report from CNN’s Jake Tapper citing law enforcement sources in neighboring Coral Springs, Florida who said that four Broward county deputies did not enter the school even after the shooting had occurred.

One school deputy Scott Peterson allegedly stood outside the school during the course of the shooting. “We had one guard and he did not turn out to be too good. I can tell you that. He is not a credit to law enforcement. He didn’t want to go into the school and be tested under fire. It was not a good result,” Trump said of Peterson.

The President expounded, “I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon.” Trump has since said he supports arming select teachers in schools to protect against potential shooters.
