French authorities finally declared Orthodox Jew Sarah Halimi’s death as an “anti-Semitic” murder.

A French judge ruled Wednesday Halimi’s death should be classified as an anti-Semitic act, according to the International Business Times.

During the case, French authorities initially refused to consider the murderer’s motivation stemmed from religious animosity. The presiding judge decided to overturn that Tuesday after hearing directly from Kobili Traoré, the man accused of murdering Halimi.

Halimi was killed in April 2017 after neighbor Traoré allegedly beat her to death upon breaking into her apartment. Traore reportedly screamed “Alluh Akbar” before tossing her off a balcony.

“I’ve killed the demon,” he reportedly yelled in Arabic.

The case sparked outrage in the Jewish community and outlets across the globe due to the French authorities’ refusal to call it anti-Semitic. Muriel Ouaknine-Melki, a lawyer for Halimi’s brother, said, “If the judiciary refuses to recognize the anti-Semitic nature of her homicide,” it would be like murdering Halimi a second time.
