Weber State DB Taron Johnson thought he was having a good week at the NFL Scouting Combine. That’s until he ran a gauntlet Monday in Indianapolis that aired on national television and may have obliterated all the street cred he was so diligently racking up.

Just listen to the announcers in all of their glorious shock. You can almost see their jaws on the ground. You literally can see some of the spectators wincing from how bad that hit was.

The problem is Taron Johnson was expected to be a fourth round pick. He achieved first-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-Big Sky at Webster State. Now I’m not an expert on how much getting drilled in the face affects your draft status but I can’t imagine it helps you.

On the other hand, you’ve gotta feel bad for this guy. He was doing so, so well. He may be small but he packs a punch and plays aggressively. And who among us hasn’t done something embarrassing in front of a crowd of spectators? Some people would kill for this be the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to them. And realistically, this won’t make or break his chances of getting to the NFL. This makes for good internet banter and it’ll probably last for a day or two. By the time the draft rolls around nobody’s going to remember what happened on that fateful day in March. It’s not even like anyone wrote a story about it. This guy’s got nothing to worry about.
