Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Case Keenum will take his talents to the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This seems like a smart move for John Elway and the Broncos. Keenum is a safe pick that will bring stability to the quarterback position, and he will almost certainly not break the bank.

The other important part of this signing is that it gives the Broncos the opportunity to develop a long-term quarterback for the future of the franchise. That doesn’t look like it’s likely to be Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian. The Broncos could snag a guy in the draft this year, have him sit on the bench behind Keenum for a couple years and then takeover down the road.

There wouldn’t be any expectations on a rookie to play or do well, and thus, there would be no crushing pressure that has ruined so many young QBs.

Getting Keenum isn’t the sexiest play possible, but it is very smart. Props to Keenum for finally getting that big pay day that he’s deserved for a long time.
