TV economic analyst Larry Kudlow has accepted President Donald Trump’s offer to become the next director of the National Economic Council, multiple outlets report.

Trump hinted that Kudlow was being “strongly “considered for the post during a Tuesday visit to California following outgoing director Gary Cohn’s resignation last week. The TV analyst has long been an ally of the president dating back to the 2016 presidential campaign.

Kudlow also worked in the Reagan administration and adheres to a free trade philosophy that at times may conflict with Trump’s desire for tariffs.
